CEB Launches Investigation into Nationwide Power Failure

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced an investigation into today’s island-wide power failure to determine its cause and implement preventive measures.

CEB Chairman Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya confirmed that a detailed report will be released tomorrow (10th), providing insights into the outage. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy has launched a separate inquiry to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure.

Sri Lanka has experienced similar nationwide blackouts in the past, with major incidents recorded in 2016, 2020, 2021, and December 2023. The last outage was attributed to a transmission failure between Kotmale and Biyagama.

The CEB has apologized for the disruption and assured the public that measures will be taken to prevent future occurrences.
