More than 40,000 kidney and heart patients are on waiting lists to undergo surgery at government hospitals, says the President of the Government Medical Association for Medical and Civil Rights, Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa.
More than 20,000 kidney patients are on waiting lists for kidney dialysis and surgery, and more than 20,000 are on waiting lists for heart tests and surgery, says Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa.
These patients are on waiting lists at several hospitals including the Lady Rizwe Children's Hospital in Borella, the Maligawatta Kidney Hospital, the Colombo and Kandy National Hospitals, and they are waiting for their turn, says Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa.
Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa further stated that a significant number of patients die before undergoing surgery due to the worsening of their condition.
