Power Fully Restored Across Sri Lanka – Energy Ministry

The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that electricity has been fully restored nationwide after an unexpected island-wide power outage earlier today (09).

The blackout affected key areas, including the National Hospital in Colombo, the Ambathale Water Purification Plant, and parts of Biyagama and Sapugaskanda. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) worked swiftly to restore power, tracing the issue to an emergency situation at the Panadura grid substation.

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody later revealed that the outage was caused by a monkey falling onto power lines at the substation. Officials have assured the public that necessary measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
